You must complete both the online and in-person cart check-off to be BLS certified. ![]() IU Health has converted BLS certification/recertification from its former full-day session into a quarterly, 15-minute online module and a 5-10 minute in-person cart check-off that is all accessible 24-7. Indianapolis IUSM Campus students may choose to utilize the IU Health RQI program from the American Heart Association (AHA). Indianapolis IUSM Campus BLS Certification Your regional campus administrative staff or IUSM Compliance can help guide you to local classes and locations, or you may follow the links below to the American Heart Association or American Red Cross websites: IUSM students located at any of our regional campuses may choose to complete BLS certification either through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. IUSM Compliance can be reached by email at Campus BLS Certification : Submission of your BLS certification documentation to your regional campus or departmental administrative staff does not comply with IUSM mandatory compliance requirements. This document must have the AHA or American Red Cross logo, your name, and dates of certification. Upload a copy of your BLS certification documentation to your MedHub account. Submission of BLS Certification to IUSM Compliance: You must submit documentation of your annual BLS certification to IUSM Compliance through your MedHub account. CPR, K-12 First Aid, and other course types will not be accepted as valid BLS certification for IUSM students. For the American Red Cross, students should take “BLS for Healthcare and Public Safety”. The recommended course to take from the American Heart Association is the “Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Professionals” course. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain and maintain valid BLS certification. This documentation must be submitted to the IUSM Compliance Office via your MedHub account annually and kept up to date. BLS certification from any other BLS course will not be accepted by IUSM as valid BLS certification. IUSM requires all students to maintain current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers ONLY from a licensed American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross training facility or provider. ![]()
